My name is Mike and I love classic pop music. Over the years I’ve also discovered old folk and blues recordings and African music. I hope I never stop finding new music to listen to.
Piano is my main thing. I write my own stuff and I’ve made 4 albums since 2001. I’ve been lucky to work with The Brothers Creeggan (Barenaked Ladies) and Don Kerr (The Rheostatics) on my albums. I’ve toured in Canada and the US and have shared stages with Sarah Harmer, Barenaked Ladies, Ron Sexsmith and other notable Canadian musicians. My music has also been played a bunch on CBC Radio and received good reviews in the press across Canada.
I just finished my 5th album in March 2010 — Do You Feel The World?. I recorded it down in Nashville with some new friends. Brad Jones (Josh Rouse, Jill Sobule) produced it. It’s pretty groovy and it’s a mix of the live flavor of my 2009 offering Good Watermelon and the more produced sound of 2005′s I’ll Bring the Stereo. Ron Sexsmith sings on the last song too.
All of the songs were written in my Montreal apartment on Darlington Place since I moved back to my hometown in March 2009 (I’ve called both Halifax and Toronto home). I wrote around 75 in that apartment. These 12 songs seemed to fit nicely together.
Do You Feel The World? will be available by the end of 2010 and I’ll be heading out on tour to perform the songs in a town near you. Until then, I’ll be posting songs from the album on my website and playing some shows in Canada.
A bientot!
