Released in 2011
The new album, recorded in Nashville and produced by Brad Jones (Josh Rouse, Jill Sobule). Ron Sexsmith sings backup on one song. The songs were written in Montreal between March 2009 and February 2010.
Good Watermelon
Released in 2009
Co-produced by Mike and Paul Forgues (who recorded “I’ll Bring The Stereo”) and recorded live off-the-floor straight to 2-track 1/2 inch tape in the Spring of 2008 at Montreal’s Breakglass Studio. The band is largely the now-defunct Ideal Lovers, Mike’s longtime collaborators. Andy Creeggan makes a guest appearance on a few songs, most notably the title track. These songs were written mostly when Mike was living in Toronto between 2006-2007. Mike’s then-home of Halifax is lovingly represented on the back cover, the setting being his backyard and the watermelon-loving people being some of Halifax’s most talented musical crop. Dig in!
Let’s Slow It Down
Released in 2007
Produced by Don Kerr, who Mike has long admired since seeing him play drums with Ron Sexsmith back in the day. This “love song” EP was recorded at the Gas Station in Toronto shortly after Mike moved there at the beginning of 2006. Recorded in the sequence it appears on the album, the musicians are Kurt Swinghammer on guitar, Don Kerr on drums and Jason Mercer on upright bass. The first album to feature Beatrice, Mike’s 64-key upright piano.
I’ll Bring The Stereo
Released in 2005
Produced by Jim Creeggan and Andy Creeggan (The Brothers Creeggan, Barenaked Ladies) and recorded at Jim’s house in Toronto in the summer of 2004. Features Kurt Swinghammer on guitar and cover art, Tyler Stewart and Kevin Hearn of Barenaked Ladies, David Matheson of Moxy Fruvous, and Kevin Breit (Bryan Adams’ band). Mixed in Los Angeles by Jim Scott (Johnny Cash, Tom Petty). Most of these songs were written between 2002-2003 in New York/New Jersey.
The January Muse
Released in 2001
Mike’s first album, recorded in Montreal while he was still at university. Danielle Duval, who sings backup on “I’ll Bring The Stereo”, recorded and co-produced the album. A copy got into the hands of Andy Creeggan, which led to ongoing collaboration between Mike and The Brothers Creeggan.
